It was Simply hot!  The families of Kappes Simmental hosted their 15th Annual Maternal and Performance Sale on Saturday, February 16th, 2002 at Aberdeen SD. Guest consignor for this sale was Flittle Ranch of Hosmer, SD.  Breeders from coast to coast were on the seats or on the phone lines for this exceptional set of cattle.  Cattle did sell into 14 states and Canada for a grand average of $2292 on 142 head.

Bull Division:

The king of the high selling honors was Kappes Duramax L172, Lot #25.  Combining the breed giants in his pedigree, packing the power of carcass potential and good looks, this youngster does it all.  Genetically homozygous black and polled, this March 22 bull sold for $14,000 which was for full possession and ˝ semen interest.  Lorna Marshall of ABS was on the seats to give the final bid for Black Ridge Simmental in NC and ABS Global INC. of WI.

Ron Moulton of Hudson Pines Farm of NY flew in to Aberdeen to take a look at the offering. He made his bull selection on lot# 14, Kappes Power Beef L77.  Sired by Preferred Beef and out of Kappes Lady Arapahoe, Power Beef is DNA tested homozygous black.  If you like your bulls to have a thick top, deep bodied and still look good-give Hudson Pines a call about semen. Power Beef’s price tag was $11,750 for full possession and 2/3 semen interest.

A partnership of Jim Skillestad/Skillestad Ranch, MT and Harrell Watts/Simmental of Alabama, AL loaded the trailer sale day with Kappes Bases Loaded L51, Lot #1.

The genetic blend of GW Lucky Strike and GW Stop Light was the winning combination in this stout made herd sire prospect.  The gavel fell at a price of $7700.

Shane Petschke of Brant Farms of Hinckley, MN made the trip to South Dakota for Lot #19 Kappes Profit Plus L87.  DNA tested homozygous black, this March 14 son of PVF Preferred Edge and Kappes One Stop H60 (Stop Light) is a high performance bull that packs a very impressive family tree as well.  Last bid was $6000.

$6000 was also the cost for Kappes Blackout L64, Lot #6. Sired by Preferred Beef and out of a 600U dam, this bull perhaps had more commercial producers bidding than any bull in the offering.  He is a March 10 calf that was stout, thick, deep bodied and had a nice front end.  He will cover the pastures in Arapahoe, Nebraska for Dennis Breinig of Breinig Simmentals.

Jacque Glen, Cross Timers, MO selected Kappes On Track L126, Lot #78.  This stout made Angus bull was an ET son of Sitz SLS Rainmaker 7596 and CH Black Bird. The final bid was $5000.

Another popular female was Kappes 600U K199, Lot #99.  This solid black square made female is an own daughter of 600U and out of Kappes Lady Pride F79 bred to Irish Black Knight.  She is a great example why the 600U females are so popular.
